Yampa Valley Fast Facts

We have listed the fast facts in 5 areas: economic, real estate, schools, demographics and natural resources. The information includes data for the 3 counties, source of our data, how current the data is and how often we update the data.
Here is a sampling of what you will find in our Fast Facts PDF
Economic: civilian workforce, number of jobs, unemployment, number of businesses, per capita income, monthly retail sales, banking information and the cost of living comparison to Denver.
Real Estate: month and year to date value of construction, number of housing units for sale, number of foreclosures
Schools: Number of school districts, enrollment, number of free or reduced lunches
Demographics: population, median age
Natural Resources: Oil & Gas number of producing wells, oil produced, gas produced, coal production, number of mines

July Fast Facts Observations as of 8/20/10
Employment:
July 2010 represented the 31th consecutive month that the imbalance between workforce and the number of jobs was negative. (more workforce than jobs) This means that all counties will continue to experience economic stress due to the local unemployment situation. In Routt county the number of jobs and workforce increased while active unemployment claims decreased. In Moffat and Rio Blanco county the number of jobs and workforce decreased.
Construction/Real Estate
· Residential construction in June of 2010 remained at near historic lows with only two residential permit being issue in Routt County. With 14 single family homes sold in July out of 1,385 current inventory. Based on the predictive correlation between the percentage of existing single family inventory sold and the number of homes listed for sale – any recovery in new residential construction is not in sight.
· In the month of June there was measurable reduction in the number of households in Routt County receiving a foreclosure notice. The numbers are back to 2009 levels.
· The median listing price year over year for Routt county is seeing improvement while Moffat county is decreasing
Energy:
The four coal mines in North West Colorado during this reporting period accounted for 66% of the state's total coal production, up 12% from last month.
Natural Gas production in the three NW Colorado Counties was down 8% from last year to 6.0 million MCFs.
